Music
The
Ethiopian Orthodox Church is said to have a profound influence
over the music of the Ethiopian in the central and northern
highlands. Saint Yared, a priest who has lived in the 5th
century had invented the first music nota for the Ethiopian
Orthodox Church. His works still dominates the rituals and
religious ceremonies of the Orthodox Church in Ethiopia. On the
other hand, there are four indigenous musical bits namely; the
Ambasal, Tizita, Bati and Anchiye Hoye commonly followed by most
of the modern day singers in Ethiopia. Troubadours, locally
known as the “Azmaris” have played notable roles in preserving
the Ethiopian cultural music to the present day. Like the
diversity of the cultures of the people, Ethiopia has rich
musical assets belonging to the different languages and culture
of the diverse nations and nationalities of the country.
Habesha’s music shop has collections of cultural music of both
the olden and present times.
